Robotics: what ABI Research forecast for 2030
Technology and innovation have shown they can solve many of the challenges of recent years, economic, social and health-related alike. In the report 37 Technology Stats You Need to Know for 2023, ABI Research collected the statistics that, in its view, would have the greatest impact on digital transformation worldwide.
A boom in robotics
One of the most striking figures in the report is the rapid rise in robot installations: ABI Research forecast that they would reach 20 million worldwide by 2030.
According to the report, industrial, collaborative and commercial robotics were booming. In 2021 robot installations grew significantly and in 2022 they reached record levels, although the report expected the boom to slow slightly in 2023 because of external factors such as the war in Ukraine and inflationary pressure, as forecast by Lian Jye Su, research director at ABI Research.
Even so, the future potential of robotics is enormous.
"Of the millions of data points ABI Research creates each year, we have focused on the most illustrative statistics that will shape the year ahead. The rapid rise in robot installations is only one of many changes on the horizon that point to a more connected and technological world," said Stuart Carlaw, research director at ABI Research.
Collaborative, industrial and commercial robotics:
In collaborative robotics, robots are designed specifically to work alongside people on tasks that could previously only be done by hand, and they are already making inroads into a wide range of industries, such as automotive, food and logistics. Collaborative robot technology will keep improving, and demand is expected to keep growing as companies look for ways to increase efficiency and cut costs.
Industrial robotics is also seeing significant growth as manufacturers look to automate more and more of their production lines to improve efficiency, precision and quality. In future, industrial robots are expected to serve sectors such as agriculture, mining and construction, which will mean higher demand and therefore more growth in the market.
Finally, commercial robotics is also gaining ground. Commercial robots, such as delivery drones, customer service robots and cleaning robots, are becoming an ever more common presence in our daily lives. The trend therefore points to demand continuing to rise as companies look for ways to improve efficiency and the customer experience.
There is no doubt that robotics is a technology with enormous future potential. Its ability to improve efficiency, quality and precision across a wide range of industries makes it a very valuable tool for companies that want to stay competitive in an increasingly digital world. As robot technology continues to improve, demand is expected to keep rising, leading to more growth in the market and to new opportunities for the organisations that adopt it.
