Accessibility in autonomous mobility services

Vehicle manufacturers, sensor, software and companies, telecoms, insurers, engineering firms and mobility consultancies.

We review and advise on standards for your project.

Why the complete journey matters

An autonomous mobility service has to plan for help with boarding, finding the way and getting off. A person with special needs has to be able to make the whole journey on their own: find the vehicle, get in, know where it is going and get off at their stop.

That is why we review that complete journey through the eyes of people with disabilities. Our president and co-founder, Aitor Fernández, is blind: for him, autonomous mobility means gaining freedom.

How can we collaborate?

The process has four steps.

  1. You tell us about your project. A first call to understand what service you want to launch, where and for whom.
  2. We review the complete journey. From the first click on the booking to arriving at the destination, from the point of view of people with disabilities.
  3. We tell you what we saw. What is worth improving, which rules may affect you and which organisations might be interesting to collaborate with.
  4. We send you a proposal. We assess your case together and send you the scope and the budget.

What our work consists of

  • Accessibility review

We review the journey of your service through the eyes of people with disabilities and identify what is worth improving.

  • Guidance on regulation

We share what we know about the rules that may apply and what is still to be regulated. We start from our 2021 roadmap, in which we analysed more than 2,000 rules and standards and selected 350.

  • Contacts in European projects

When it makes sense, we put you in touch with organisations from the European we have taken part in, such as -MOBIX and SELFY.

Scope of our work

  • We give an expert opinion together with users. , and official authorisations are the responsibility of the competent bodies.
  • AEVAC is a non-profit association dedicated to advice and collaboration. Operating vehicles and selling technology fall outside its activity.

Our journey so far

Since 2017 we have worked to show the users' point of view in autonomous and connected mobility.

  1. 2017

    AEVAC is founded

We bring users' perspectives to autonomous and connected mobility.

  2. 2018–2022

    5G-MOBIX

Consortium member. Project: 1 November 2018 to 30 September 2022.

  3. 2018–2022

    DIAMOND

External adviser. Project: 1 November 2018 to 31 January 2022.

  4. 2020–2024

    SHOW

External adviser. Project: 1 January 2020 to 30 September 2024.

  5. 2021

    Roadmap

More than 2,000 standards analysed; 350 selected.

  6. 2022–2025

    SELFY

Consortium member. Project: 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2025.

A network built together

81 organisations in 16 countries, across the 5G-MOBIX and SELFY consortia.

How we counted it

2017: year the association was founded

2,000+: standards analysed in the 2021 roadmap, of which 350 were selected

4: European projects: partners in 5G-MOBIX and SELFY, advisers in SHOW and DIAMOND

Partners in 5G-MOBIX ( 825496) and SELFY (CORDIS 101069748). External advisers in SHOW and DIAMOND

81: distinct entities AEVAC has shared a consortium with in 5G-MOBIX and SELFY

CORDIS, list of entities of 5G-MOBIX (67, AEVAC included; 5G-MOBIX on CORDIS) and of SELFY (17, AEVAC included; SELFY on CORDIS). They add up to 84 rows; two entities are in both consortia (AEVAC and Eindhoven University of Technology), so there are 82 distinct entities and 81 not counting AEVAC. It counts all the roles that CORDIS lists (coordinator, participants, third parties and international or associated entities of the consortium). Our own count from the CORDIS lists of entities.

16: countries with entities in the 5G-MOBIX and SELFY consortia

CORDIS, countries of 5G-MOBIX (13) and of SELFY (8), with five in common: 16 distinct countries (AT, AU, BE, CN, DE, EL, ES, FI, FR, JP, KR, LU, NL, PT, TR, UK). Our own count from the CORDIS lists of entities. 5G-MOBIX on CORDIS and SELFY on CORDIS
